So glad the storm passed and that we were able to play last night.

Sorry I’ve been m.i.a. lately - sometimes life gets busy, ya know?

At least I’ve been spending a lot of my time watching, playing, & talking about soccer - last night I was even able to go out and play pickup with my sister and a group of my friends from Section 8 Chicago. It had been over a year since my sister and I had last been to Grasshopper when all the Husaria guys used to play regularly, and we missed it!

My legs are hurting today, but it was fun to run around and see everyone. Hope everyone is doing well!

I recently took a part-time job in addition to my full-time one to work for a soccer organization in Chicago called Kick It Social. I’d been playing in Kick It Social leagues for the last year, and I’d really been enjoying my time with them. I appreciated the owner’s passion for the game (every time he steps on the field, his eyes light up with happiness), the relationship he built with teams & players in the league, and the level of play that the leagues had to offer (from beginners to competitive).

I was especially thankful for the risks he took in starting up women’s leagues through Kick It Social. Even though Chicago is a massive city - since I started playing adult leagues in the city in 2006, it seems that there has never been a lasting women’s league no matter how many organizations have tried to get one up and running. As a female player, I’m hopeful that a great women’s league can last and continue to grow in years to come - Chicago is certainly not short on female players.

I’ve always been an advocate of adult soccer in Chicago  especially women’s adult soccer, so I’m happy to have the opportunity to help the game grow in a different setting now -  other than just spreading the word individually, through friends, teammates, etc.

If you’re in Chicago and looking to join a league, hop on a team, or play a little pick-up - please feel free to reach out, as I’d be more than happy to help you find a league, team, or pick-up session that suits you best.

Happy to be helping grow the game.

Sunday was a really great soccer day for me.

1. I enjoyed the afternoon watching soccer with some of my favorite ladies. (Photo: KT Q, my sister, me, Julie)

2. Fire not only scored ONE goal but THREE. Thank you, soccer Gods for this one. [Insert high-fives to Paladini & Santos here.]

3. Fire victory. Yes, it really happened!

4. Watching Julie swoon over Henry was also quite entertaining.

The only thing that could have made the afternoon better was if my favorite Chicago Fire/MLS player, Chris Rolfe, would have made the PK he took. Sigh. [See photo.] Even with this missed opportunity, I have high hopes for goals to be scored by him in he near future.

How did your MLS teams do over the weekend?

What were we doing last weekend, you ask? Well, Smash was cheering on her FC Dallas boys at home in Dallas with her girls, and Julie and I were bundled up in Chicago trying to bear the cold weather and terrible soccer being played by Chicago Fire - at least the tifo by Section 8 Chicago was off the hook.

Losses & sadfaces. Hoping this weekend is better for our teams. MLS weekend #3 of 2013 is upon us - happy soccer watching.

It’s been five months, since I last played soccer due to a muscular heel injury that was caused by playing in old cleats on turf fields (the cleats would go through the turf and hit the concrete underneath).  My doctor told me that I might always have to wear turf shoes once I’m able to play again. Sigh. All I really want are all black boots like the ones this Bronco is wearing.

Soccer boot daydreams.

Here is a Badass Broncoexpressing how I feel about that unending truth.

Thank God for Widgic.

Editing to add the following PSA: That is how you wear shorts.

Nearly two-and-a-half months ago I had to add myself to the IR list and take a break from playing soccer for a little while due to a nagging heel injury - turns out wearing old cleats can really do some damage, especially while playing on turf [the cleats go through the turf and hit the hard surface underneath]. Well, that was mid September and now it’s nearly December and my left foot is still hanging out in a boot, though there are signs of rehab in my near future. [YAY!]

Back when I first new that I’d be sitting on the bench for a while, I started looking at new boots knowing that I’d need a new pair and was somewhat excited that I had an excuse to throw down some cash on a pair. [This was also before my doctor told me that it’s best to wear turf shoes on turf fields. Go figure. And I don’t love the appearance of most turf shoes. Oh well.]

As my heel continues to heal, here are some of the soccer/futsal boots that I’ve been daydreaming about. Note: No turf shoes pictured. Sadface.

p.s. Here’s a post that A Football Report posted on football boots today.

MLS 2012 Playoff format & dates.

Who are you supporting now that playoffs are approaching?

Chicago Fire, obviously, has my vote, and  SMASH is supporting DC since her beloved FC Dallas didn’t make the playoffs.

Why is she supporting DC, you ask? Well because of Ben Olson, of course. I must admit that I’m a little disappointed in her decision, as I would back Dallas in her honor if Fire did not make the playoffs. I’m still going to try to persuade her to come over to my side with the help Dan Gargan’s good looks. ::fingers crossed::

Purple Pandas started another season together as of last week with Kick-It-Social.  The roster is quite different then previous years we played together, but one of the things I love about playing soccer is the diversity of it all.  Appx a fourth of our team are DePaul University sophomores, another fourth are recent graduates of Lake Forest College, and yet another handful are made up of a group of us 30+ oldies that have played together over the years (also known as the OG Pandas, myself included!).

Camryn (pictured by herself) was player of the game in our 1-0 victory. YEAAH! I met her playing club soccer last year for DePaul. I never would have imagined that I would have become such good friends with such a young, inspiring soccer player before I joined the team, but as the old lady on the team, I’m terribly grateful for the friendships I made with the youngins I played with while playing DePaul club.

Sadly, I am currently sidelined with a foot injury and am missing footy terribly after being on the IR list for about two weeks now. (Yep, that’s me in the orange jacket, clearly not dressed in a full kit like all the other sweaty babes in the team pic.)

Thanks, Kick-It-Social, for giving us another women’s league to play in. I hope the women’s adult rec/competitive league continues to grow in Chicago.

Another weekend spent with my sister and friends at Toyota Park. For once in a long while, it’s actually exciting to go to matches again - the Fire have been playing significantly better than they have the last couple of seasons and have been notching a lot more W’s on the board.

Also, second place in the Eastern Conference and third place overall. Not baddddd, guys.

What are your hopes for the end of the MLS season?
